Acrylic Patch
Acrylic patches are stiffer ,however they come in colors that you wont find leather. Being acrylic if they are bent they snap. This is the disclaimer so i suggest you dont bend your hat

I use syntehic leather on hats, it engraves better and looks fresh longer.
